Luis Jáuregui, M.D. - Secretary
Dr. Luis Jáuregui is the associate director of education of internal medicine and chief of infectious diseases at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He has also served as professor of microbiology since 1977 and is currently clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Ohio. Since 1989 Dr. Jáuregui has served as co-director of the Center for Applied Pharmacology at the University of Toledo’s College of Pharmacy. A member of numerous national professional societies, he also participates in several Ibero-American organizations, and has been guest lecturer at medical schools throughout Latin America.
In 1989 Dr. Jáuregui received the Medical Residents’ Award for Best Teacher and in 1982 he was recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Best Clinical Teacher. In addition to publishing over 40 book chapters, more than 40 journal articles, and over 50 abstracts and presentations, he continues to be the principal investigator or co-investigator on numerous sponsored research projects encompassing phases 1, 2, and 3 of new drug testing. An area of special expertise is antibacterial resistance.
Originally from La Paz, Bolivia, Dr. Jáuregui obtained his MD in 1972 from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Jáuregui joined the board of the Pan American Health and Education Foundation in May 2002. He is currently serving as the secretary of the board.
