The 2007 Call for nominations is closed
Through 20 April 2007 , the Foundation is accepting nominations for the Horwitz Award. Nominees must be individuals whose professional achievement in any field of inter-American health stimulates excellence, and has impacted the health of populations across the borders of the Americas. They may be active in their careers, active though in formal retirement or retired having demonstrated an outstanding lifetime career. Nominees are eligible for the award if they are willing to attend the annual meeting of PAHO in Washington DC, and to present a speech at the awards ceremony on a public health topic, a part of this annual meeting.
Staff members in active service of PAHO, WHO and other UN agencies, current official representatives to PAHO's governing bodies (i.e., Ministers of Health), sitting members of the Foundation's board of trustees, and members of Jury of the Abraham Horwitz Award for Leadership in Inter-American Health are ineligible to receive the award.
To be considered, the nomination must be completed in its entirety.
To make a nomination, please complete the nomination form in its entirety. In the public health impact statement, clearly state the cross-border impact of the nominee's work, demonstration of nominee's leadership, and an example of how the nominee stimulates excellence in others in the Region of the Americas .
Also submit and address a letter of introduction dated and signed by the nominator, and a letter of support (no longer than two pages each) both on official letterhead. The letter of support m us t be dated and signed by an individual other than the nominator, and preferably an individual who is from a country other than that of the nominee. The letters provide an opportunity to expand on the public health impact statement by providing more information on the nominee’s leadership experience and skills, the cross border impact on public health of his/her work, and how she/he inspires others to excel.
The letters and completed nomination form must be signed and in English or Spanish. If the letters and nomination form are submitted electronically, they m us t have an electronic signature. Any unsigned or incomplete documents will not be considered.
If you would like to nominate more than one individual, there m us t be a letter of introduction, a letter of support and a completed nomination form for each individual.
Submitted items other than the letters, check list and completed nomination form will not be considered by the jury. Nominations m us t be received no later than 20 April 2007. Nominations received after this date will not be accepted . We suggest sending the nomination at least 3 weeks before the deadline.
