Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) Grants Program 2008
I. General Background: The PAHEF Grants Program (PGP)
The PAHEF Grants Program, launched in March 2005 by PAHEF’s Board of Trustees, provides small grants in the range of $5,000 - $25,000 per year for up to two years to organizations that support sustainable projects, which are innovative, culturally sensitive, and foster partnerships with other stakeholders to improve health in the Americas. The PAHEF Grants Program (PGP) supports efforts to improve the effectiveness of programs aimed at solving problems in specifically defined health areas. Of interest are proposals that deal with program design, monitoring, and evaluation and with operations research.
The following organizations may apply for one or two year project grants:
- PAHO technical units and country offices/centers
- Recognized NGOs
- Universities
- Semi-autonomous government laboratories
- Research centers
- and other non-profit organizations
PAHEF themes to be supported in 2008 have to do with two important developments that will severely and increasingly strain the health budgets of the countries in the Americas over this new century: the emergence of obesity and related chronic diseases and the aging of the population. Within these broad areas we wish to focus on:
A) Combating Childhood Obesity and Improving Nutrition B) Promoting Healthy Aging
