PAHEF Supports World Contraception Day
The Pan American Health and Education Foundation is proud to be a supporter of World Contraception Day taking place on September 26, 2009.
World Contraception Day is an international initiative driven by Bayer Schering Pharma AG and a coalition of non-governmental organizations, including PAHEF, committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health.
The initiative encourages 15- to 19-year-olds throughout the world to start talking about contraception to each other and to people they trust. By empowering young people with the information they need to make smart decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, World Contraception Day will make it easier for youth to understand and talk about contraceptive options.
A Connection with PAHEF’s Mission
Being involved in this initiative is a natural fit for PAHEF, which continually champions “health for all.” In the past, PAHEF has supported projects that promote reproductive health including a two-year undertaking to provide culturally-appropriate sexual and reproductive health services (education and care) to Colombia’s indigenous population.
Spreading the Message
By integrating new media, compelling messages, and health information, the initiative will spark conversations about contraception use in a format that connects with teens. The campaign’s Web site, www.your-life.com, offers young people tips for speaking with their partners about choosing a contraceptive method.
Other World Contraception Day participating organizations include: Marie Stopes International, Population Council, The European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health, Asia Pacific Council on Contraception, El Centro Latinoamericano Salud y Mujer, International Planned Parenthood Federation, German Foundation for World Population, USAID, and Federation Internationale de Gynecologie Infantile et Juvenile.
