Dear Friend,
Yesterday morning, a 5.9 magnitude aftershock struck 35 miles from Port-au-Prince as the country was already reeling from the January 12th earthquake.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is responding to the country’s immediate needs with more than 25 PAHO/WHO staff on the ground including specialists in epidemiology, logistics, disaster management, and water/sanitation. PAHO/WHO flights are en route to Haiti carrying medicines and supplies that can treat 165,000 people for one month, plus drugs and equipment to treat 1,000 people with trauma injuries.
The team members have started the daunting process of establishing a health infrastructure. Field hospitals have been set up to immediately treat the injured and begin bringing basic services back to the Haitian people.
When we think of all the comforts you and I are fortunate enough to be surrounded with, it is nearly impossible to imagine the plight of the earthquake victims sleeping on the streets, mourning the loss of multiple family members, and facing an uncertain future.
Please consider making a gift to help the people of Haiti receive the basic care and necessities they need.
Your contribution will support PAHO’s critical efforts to provide vital care and rebuild the crumbled infrastructure of this poverty-stricken nation. This disaster has no easy fix and it will take all of our support to help Haiti.
We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of the PAHO teams in their tireless efforts to restore hope and basic services to the people of Haiti.
Regards,

Edward L. Kadunc, MPH
